On behalf of Tom Skinner, Chairman of the Board of Steel Plus Network, we are pleased to announce the appointment of Tony Bégin of Canam Group Inc. (Québec) as Board Member, representing Canam.
Tony graduated in 1995 from the University of Sherbrooke in Civil Engineering with a master’s degree in Structural Dynamics. He has worked at Canam for 25 years, starting as a connection design engineer and was involved with Steel Plus Network at its inception, which had up to 120 steel fabricators members in North America. He has developed a “Design Assistance Service” by visiting over 100 engineering firms across Canada and in the United States.
Tony implemented the “National Account Buy Direct Program” at Canam by approaching major retailers and developers such as Walmart, Home Depot, Canadian Tire, Sobeys, Smart Centers, and Trinity Development Group. His function today is to promote LEAN construction practices and the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) collaborative approach to professionals, owners, developers, and contractors.
Tony has also been involved with the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) for over 25 years beginning as a student member up to the national presidency in 2015-2016. He received the Walter Shanly Award in 2017 for his outstanding contributions to construction engineering research and practice in Canada. Tony was also elected in 2017 as Fellows in recognition for his civil engineering excellence and active contribution towards the progress of his profession.
